As soon as you start reading Midnight Hunter you are transformed to East Berlin 1963. Not only is the description of the place exactly what I imagined it to be but you can feel the desperation, the anxiety, the anticipation that Evony feels. You actually feel like you are there with Evony in the cold January night trying to figure out your next step. You’re hooked from the first page. Not knowing what the next sentence will reveal and how the story will unravel itself. The chances, considering the circumstances that they will end up together seem pretty much impossible and Brianna Hale masters the impossible.

“Liebling. Darling. He says it so tenderly, and even the touch of his fingers is tender. Stupidly I remember how I thought he’d look pleasant when he smiled. He look more than pleasant. Volker is handsome. Far too handsome for a monster. There’s no cruetly or evil lurking anywhere in his clear, open features. He’s looking at me like a lover might.” 

Evony’s battle between what’s right and wrong was easy to comprehend but honestly who can resist a man like Volker? And as much as Evony tries she can’t either. I’m not really a fan of german endearments but my gosh whenever Volker says something it sounds so beautiful. The love these two have for each other is incredible. They have quite a few obstacles to overcome that are by no means easy but in the end they are so worth it.

I never knew what to expect and therefore it just made the whole experience so much better. I’m in constant awe of Brianna Hale’s ability to bring characters to live. By the time you finish one of her books the characters feel real and perhaps a part of it is because they all are very relatable for me but it’s also because of how well she describes everything and all the emotions she puts you through. I LOVED Volker and Evony’s story and I even got a much wanted epilogue!!!! I can’t recommend Midnight Hunter enough!
